James has played bass with the Red Soul Brigade since their formation in October 2004. This is his first outing with a fully-fledged funk band with a horn section, but previous projects include: 'ahuman' a prog-groove-metal band, and prior to this his high school Swing Band. Other current projects include the Oxford based Tiger Mendoza Project and Mr Fishers Jelly Funk Social.
James picked up the bass for the first time age 12 and has taught himself everything he knows from the work of bassists such as Victor Wooten, Larry Graham, Stanley Clarke, Jaco, Marcus Miller, Flea, James Jamerson, Geddy Lee, Mani, Les Claypool, John Myung and many more besides.
Currently James plays his Marleaux Consat Custom 4 “Dream Bass” and fretted/fretless Cort Curbow 5 strings, these are run through a Boss GTB-6 and a Peavey TNT amp.
